Day 1- Messina
Messina is a harbour city in northeast Sicily, separated from mainland Italy by the Strait of Messina. It’s known for the Norman Messina Cathedral, with its Gothic portal, 15th-century windows and an astronomical clock on the bell tower. Nearby are marble fountains decorated with mythological figures, like the Fontana di Orione, with its carved inscriptions, and the Neptune Fountain, topped by a statue of the sea god.
Day 2 & 3– Vulcano
37Nm from Messina is Vulcano or “Vulcan”. A small volcanic island in the Tyrrhenian Sea, about 25 km north of Sicily and located at the southernmost end of the eight Aeolian Islands.
Day 4, 5 & 6 – Aeolian Islands
It is around 80Nm around the Aeolian Islands so we take 3 days with overnight stay at anchor.
Lipari is the largest of the Aeolian Islands in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the northern coast of Sicily. Also the name of the island’s main town and commune, which is administratively part of the Metropolitan City of Messina
Salina is one of the Aeolian Islands to the north. It is the second largest island in the archipelago. Salina is divided between three comuni: Santa Marina on the eastern coast, Malfa to the north, and Leni to the south-west. From Leni down towards the sea is the village of Rinella.
Filicudi is one of eight islands that make up the Aeolian archipelago, situated 30–50 km northeast of the island of Sicily, southern Italy. It is a frazione of the commune of Lipari
Alicudi is the westernmost of the eight islands that make up the Aeolian archipelago, a volcanic island chain north of Sicily. The island is about 40 km west of Lipari, has a total area of 5.2 km², and is roughly circular. It is located at 38°32′45″N 14°21′00″E
Day 7 – San Gregorio Bagnoli
Crossing the 16Nm to the North of Sicily we anchor off San Gregorio Bagnoli.
Day 8 – Cefalu
Just under 40Nm today, passing Marina di Caronia and Castel di Tusa we enter Cefalu.
Cefalù is a coastal city in northern Sicily. It’s known for its Norman cathedral, a 12th-century fortress-like structure with elaborate Byzantine mosaics and soaring twin towers. Nearby, the Mandralisca Museum is home to archaeological exhibits and a picture gallery with a portrait by Antonello da Messina. The beaches of Mazzaforno and Settefrati lie to the west.
Day 9 & 10 – Palermo
32Nm further West is Palermo. The capital of the Italian island of Sicily. The 12th-century Palermo Cathedral houses royal tombs, while the huge neoclassical Teatro Massimo is known for opera performances. Also in the centre are the Palazzo dei Normanni, a royal palace started in the 9th century, and the Cappella Palatina, with Byzantine mosaics. Busy markets include the central Ballarò street market and the Vucciria, near the port.

Leave us for a short taxi ride to Palermo airport.
